Ink painting, face done April 18, 2010, smoke completed 27 April, 2010.

The famous poet and painter William Blake was, from what history tells us, bat shit crazy. He believed he saw things from the supernatural realm, including angels who would tell him to write down certain works.
One thing he saw was what he called the ghost of a flea, which appeared to be part man, part vampire, and part reptile. Blake said that the flea actually spoke to him, saying:

"It was first intended to make me as big as a bullock; but then when it was considered from my construction, so armed—and so powerful withal, that in proportion to my bulk, (mischievous as I now am) that I should have been a too mighty destroyer; it was determined to make me—no bigger than I am."

This was just too tempting to NOT paint.

Everything is perfect: the lighting, the composition of both the head and the smoke, the forced grin of the Flea. I love your monochromatic works.

Thank you very much! I am still working with color, as monochromatic seems to be my strength.

Same here. Black and white works don't get enough love these days. It's all about color and special effects, when you can derive a lot more emotion from black and white, like the Hammer Films (Dracula, Wolf Man, etc.)

I do like color a lot. You can get some incredible moods from it, as with black and white. Switching between the two, muting the colors and such, can be just as expressive in my opinion.
